After Endodontic Treatment
WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT: Some soreness is to be expected after treatment. If this occurs, take the medication you would normally use for headache or muscle pain as needed every 3-4 hours. If discomfort is severe take the prescribed pain medication as needed with food and recommended dosage and frequency. Treat pain early. Do not wait for it to become well established when it becomes more difficult to relieve. The tooth will be sore to chew on and the area around the tooth may be tender.
SWELLING: Slight swelling is possible after treatment. If swelling does occur, DO NOT place any heat on the outside of your face. If severe swelling should occur, please notify our office as soon as possible.
EATING: Wait to eat until numbness subsides so you do not chew on your cheek, tongue, or lip. Chew food on the side opposite the treatment site as long as the tooth is sensitive. Avoid alcoholic beverages if you are taking prescribed medication.
ORAL HYGIENE: Brush and floss your teeth in the usual manner, being careful around treatment site(s) not to dislodge the temporary filling.
FEMALE PATIENTS ON BIRTH CONTROL PILLS: Birth control medications can be inactivated while you are taking antibiotics. Please be
advised that you will need alternative means of birth control while taking these medications.
PLEASE CALL OUR OFFICE (562)493-6106 IF YOU ARE IN DOUBT ABOUT ANYTHING OR DEVELOP ANY COMPLICATIONS SUCH AS SEVERE PAIN, PERSISTENT FEVER, OR SEVERE SWELLING. WE WANT TO TAKE CARE OF YOU.
